Ian is a Principal Consultant (Engineering) at Aldermane specialising in combat systems, explosive ordnance, and systems engineering for Defence clients. He has a passion for ensuring that requirements are clearly articulated and future proof; obsolescence is your future enemy.

Ian was the inaugural Chief Test Officer the Naval Construction Branch and when HMAS Sydney first left the dock under her own steam, he was the OIC for the sea acceptance trials. He was the first Western student to attend the Sri Lanka Staff Course and this experience paid dividends when he was the Defence Adviser, Colombo and was accredited to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and the Maldives.

Ian has been conferred the following degrees,  Bachelor of Engineering (Communications), Master of Science (Explosive Ordnance Engineering), Master of Systems Engineering and Master of Science (Defence and Strategic Studies). Ian was awarded his CPEng with Engineers Australia in 2006 and was elected a Fellow of Engineers Australia in 2019.

He is an advocate of the ‘We can, if’ analogy, we can do anything with the right tools, mindset, time or money and believes that Steve from Blues Clues was right in saying ‘turn that frown upside down’.
